8 Times South Park’s Randy Marsh Was Peak Dad

Ever since South Park debuted in 1997, Randy Marsh has been the under-appreciated favorite character of many fans of the show.

Between his obsession with “Heroin Hero” and the fact that, oh by the way, he is Lorde, ya ya ya, Stan’s mustached father has stolen the show more times than he can count. And if he’s not your favorite character on the show, at the very least we can say with confidence that he’s your favorite South Park dad.

So in the spirit of Randy, here are eight times in South Park history that Randy Marsh has been peak dad.

S11, E13: Guitar Queer-O: Randy Sucks At Guitar Hero

Ask any person who knows how to play guitar and they’ll tell you–Guitar Hero is not at all like the real thing. And no one gets more frustrated with that fact than a dad who can play guitar. Randy Marsh playing Guitar Hero (badly) in his tighty whities is the most pure expression of every dad’s failed first attempt at playing that confounding game.

S11, E13: Guitar Queer-O: Randy Fails To Impress With His Rendition of “Carry On Wayward Son”

Randy had a lot of dad moments in “Guitar Queer-O.” But one that every dad can relate to is the moment he whips out his old guitar and perfectly strums Kansas’ “Carry On Wayward Son” after seeing the song appear on Guitar Hero. Right as he’s getting to the good part (in his mind) he’s stopped with an abrupt, “Dad! What are you doing?”

S8, E4: You Got F’d In The A: The Time Randy Got Served So Bad He Ended Up in the Hospital

Competitive break dancing is very dangerous, especially for dads.

“Stan? Stan!? Stan listen to me. I don’t want you feeling like you have to do that competition to avenge me. But I know I can’t stop you from doing it. So all I can say is…give them hell, son. Give them hell.”

S14, E14: Crème Fraîche: Randy Goes Full Foodie Dad

When Randy develops a new hobby, he dives into it like every dad–with way too much enthusiasm, while spending way too much money. Randy’s foodie chef phase is no different. He displays all the classic symptoms of a foodie dad, while developing a strange obsession with Crème Fraîche in the process.

S13, E6: Pinewood Derby: Randy Cheats At Pinewood Derby

The Pinewood Derby is an important American tradition, and the perfect activity for some good old-fashioned father-son bonding.

Now, we’re not saying dads would ever even imagine cheating in order to win the derby…but come on. Do you know how many dad points you get for winning the Pinewood Derby? Now granted, most dads don’t have access to a stolen superconducting magnet that helps facilitate first contact with an alien race, eventually leading to the nuclear destruction of Finland.

But, you know, we get the impulse.

S10, E8: Make Love, Not Warcraft: Randy Dies In Warcraft

“S…Stan. I’ve never been able to say this before…but…I love you son. *dies*”

S11, E9: More Crap: Randy Sets A World Record

We don’t need to go into what the record was for, but let’s just say it’s a record that every dad would be proud to hold.

S9, E5- The Losing Edge: “I Thought This Was America!”

And finally we come to the most peak dad moment of Randy Marsh’s time on South Park.

In “The Losing Edge,” Randy trains to become the best at getting into drunken brawls with other dads at his kid’s baseball games. Each time he’s taken away by the police, he defiantly shouts, “What? I thought this was America!” It truly is one of the top dad moments of many for this all-time fictional dad.
