The 1980’s, as your dad will tell you time and time again, was the best decade for movies. And while he’s not right, he’s not completely wrong, either. The 80’s was a pretty solid decade for the big screen. So here are ten (actually 11*) movies from that turbulent decade that your dad is, was and will always be absolutely obsessed with.
Now, we should say here this list is Dad Movies, not necessarily the best movies of the decade. Like, should Die Hard, Lethal Weapon and Predator be on this list? Debatable. They’re awesome movies and arguably better than almost all of these, but they’re not dad-centric. Sure, by that standard we could add quite a few flicks. And even Ghostbusters doesn’t fit that standard (though it’s got some solid dad humor), but we have to draw the line somewhere and here’s where we did!
Somehow we didn’t have this on the original list of 10. So, here it is in 1st position. It’s the classic dad-takes-family-on-a-road-trip movie.
Listen, you know this already. Your dad has watched Ghostbusters probably more often than he has told you he loves you. And, honestly, he probably loves Ghostbusters more than he loves you. Sorry. It’s just that good a film.
