Recently, there have been a lot of stories about the latest dangerous “teen trend.” The Tide Pod Challenge involves filming yourself eating a Tide Pod, which is filled with concentrated laundry washing soap, and of course is extremely poisonous.
So we checked in with a local dad to see what he has to say about this dangerous trend.
Here’s the transcript:
What the heck!? You know, back in my day, when we were kids we used to do some dumb stuff, but we didn’t try to poison ourselves! Cripes, what is wrong with these kids? When I was in high school, sure, I swallowed a goldfish or two, but there’s a big difference between a goldfish and a pod of soap. For one, you hardly tasted the goldfish if you did it right, but for the other, it wouldn’t send you to the dang hospital.
You know, I’m pretty sure that this isn’t as common as the news is making it out to be. Or at least I hope that. Because I know how the news can be, if there’s some spooky story they’re going to report the heck out of it until you think all our hamburgers have mad cow disease or what have you. But there definitely are kids doing this Tide Pod Challenge, and I am not happy about that. It’s social media’s fault, really. All these kids want to become YouTube stars or whatever, and so they go and do these stupid stunts to try to get famous.
You know how you’d get famous when I was growing up? Throw the game winning touchdown for the state championship team. These kids got to get off their computers and away from their washing machines. Jimminy Crickets. Kids these days!
Well there you have it, folks. Dads think that the Tide Pod Challenge is just as dumb as the rest of us do. Can’t say we’re too surprised there, though.
