Local Dad Pretty Sure Valentine’s Day Still Weeks Away

Lawrence, Kansas native Bill Benson isn’t worried about getting his wife a Valentine’s Day gift yet, as he believes the holiday is still weeks away.

“I’ll worry about it over the weekend or maybe next week sometime,” he said Monday morning, not realizing he had less than four days to make up for last year’s debacle, when he went bowling with the guys on Valentine’s Day. “I’ve got time.”

Benson’s wife Jane has learned to expect little from him on this particular holiday.

“The kids and I can always count on Bill to come through on Christmas, mostly because some stores stay open late on Christmas Eve these days,” she said. “But Valentine’s Day? I wrote that off years ago. It’s kind of a silly holiday anyway, to be honest, though I do wish he’d remember our anniversary once in a while.”
