Five Insane State Fair Foods (That Dad Wants To Try)

Every year, State Fairs throughout America peddle out inventive and insane creations that are meant to clog arteries and delight people across the nation.

And given that just this week, the Iowa State Fair has released a list of their newest foods for this year’s event, we’ve decided to look through these offerings and present to you five delectable (and unhealthy) dishes that dads can’t help but try.

Smoked Chicken Leg

There are few food-based actions more satisfying to a dad than taking a whole leg of an animal in their hands and casually tearing out hunks of meat as they walk around aimlessly.

While nothing beats a good turkey leg, Iowa’s offering of a smoked chicken leg combines the tactile joy of walking around with a drumstick in your hand with the dad-approved flavor that only a smoker can get you. So yeah, dads are going to like this quite a bit.

Pickled Popper

State Fairs are magical places where fried food likes to get weird. This year, fair-goers can help themselves to the pickled popper. What is that, you ask? Oh, just a hollowed out jumbo pickle filled with cream cheese and deep fried. It sounds about as unhealthy as it is delicious.

Rube Dog

Dads are always going to want to seek out hot dogs, so of course the new Rube Dog is going to make their bellies rumble. This particular hot dog is covered (or rather, completely doused) in a Reuben cheese sauce that surely takes things up another level.

Brown Sugar Pork Belly On A Stick

Dads love bacon. Granted, just about everyone loves bacon, but dads especially love their bacon. And what is pork belly, really, if not super fancy bacon? This long stretch of fatty pork comes cooked with brown sugar and skewered on a stick for dad to take with him as he consumes more sodium than a bowl full of salt.

Not So Thin Mint

Essentially, this is mint chocolate chip ice cream covered in chocolate on a stick, making it an ice cream sandwich version of the Girl Scout Thin Mint Cookies, which are crack for dads. Now, dad might be pretty stuffed after eating the other four items on this list, but we suspect he’ll find a way to down this sweet treat before heading home to take a long nap in his recliner.
