6 Dad-Approved April Fools’ Day Pranks
April Fools’ Day. While we can’t confirm a dad invented the holiday, we can definitely confirm that they perfected it.
There are very few things a dad relishes more than the ability to prank his family without getting in trouble (it’s right below beer, grilling and lawn mowing among his favorite things) and April Fools’ Day lets a dad’s inner prankster fly. Here are six April Fools’ classics that dads everywhere can support.
The Mayo Prank
This is the ideal dad prank since it primarily involves everyone looking at you like you’re the one being pranked. For those unfamiliar, the approach is simple. Take a jar of mayonnaise and empty it out. Then fill it with either yogurt or vanilla pudding. Then just walk around home, work, or school while eating spoonfulls from the jar at a time. It’ll freak out those around you while also serving as a delicious treat.
The Caramel Onion Prank
For the more evil dad, the caramel onion prank takes the cake. All you need is a few onions, some caramel dip, and a stick. Peel your onions and just barely cut off the base, jam a wooden stick in there, dip the whole thing in caramel, and leave it out. You probably don’t even need to hang around, since the sound of someone biting into an onion when they expected a caramel apple will be loud enough that you’ll know.
The Frozen Cereal Prank
If you grew up expecting your dad to pour your cereal, you probably were on the receiving end of this one at least once. First, you pour a bowl of cereal. Then you freeze it overnight. Then you offer it to a family member or friend. And then you laugh as they try to chip at the now-frozen milk.
The Sudless Soap Prank
Find a bar of soap, and thoroughly coat it in clear nail polish. Once it sets, anyone trying to use the soap will find it does not lather or sud. They’ve basically got themselves a soap-shaped rock, and the sudden realization that they have to get out of the shower to get a new bar of soap.
The Nicolas Cage Prank
Nic Cage is one of the greatest dad-approved actors of all time. There are also many pictures of him looking crazy. And there will be many more once you print out dozens of Nic Cage photos and tape him to every single framed photo around the house. But don’t just stop there. Put Nic Cage pictures everywhere. On the bottom of the toilet lid. In the fridge. Underneath coasters. If done right, Nic Cage will be popping up everywhere for months.
And, since this year, April Fools happens to fall on Easter…
The Cadbury Grape Prank
First, buy a bunch of mini Cadbury eggs. Then, unwrap those eggs, carefully. Then, you can go ahead and eat those chocolate eggs (you know you want to). But finally, buy a bunch of green grapes and carefully re-wrap each one. Then hand them out to your family and friends and relish in that look of restrained disappointment when they open up their “treat.”
So enjoy your April Fools, though make sure not to mess with dad’s beer. That’s off limits.
