This is a game that spun out towards the end of the arcade silver age, but it sure was a good one.

To the uninitiated, this is a simple “drive this person from here to there” game and must be super boring. However, that’s ignoring the CRAZY part of Crazy Taxi. This game exists in an awesome world where you get paid for driving like an asshole.

The bigger the jumps, wilder the ride and the closer to other cars you can get without hitting them, the more you get tipped. Your average kid won’t pick up on that fact since it’s counter intuitive to normal driving games. Furthermore, learning the terrain, mastering the subtle near-miss tactics and knowing how to get B.D. Joe some Big Air is something that takes practice. Practice at 25 cents a pop.
