The Best Dad-Kid Music Combos Of All-Time
Being able to ‘Rock Out’ might just be a congenital trait. After all, there are plenty of great musical dads who not only gave the world great music, but also gave the world great new musicians as well. So, if creating a song that spans generations is a huge achievement, just imagine how grand it is to contribute to the next generation of song makers.
Here is a list of some of the Music-Making Dads who produced great Musical Progeny.
Bob Dylan & Jacob Dylan
You could look All Along the Watchtower, but when it comes to counter culture song writers, you’ll be hard pressed to find better than Bob Dylan. The man is as legendary as it gets in his genre and is in many ways the voice of the 60’s. However, “the first one now will later be last, cause the times they are a-changing.”
Jakob Dylan and his group the Wallflowers managed to produce a few hit songs of their own with their debut album Bringing Down the Horse.
John Lennon, Julian Lennon & Sean Lennon
Being the son of a Beatle can’t be easy, especially with the tragedy that happened to John. However, as sad as that might have been, his sons still managed to grow up just fine. Not only that, they’ve made some great music of their very own. Julian even managed to do quite well with his hit song Too Late for Goodbyes.
Frank Zappa & Dweezil Zappa
Frank Zappa was known as being the rock poster child of non-conformity. A self taught composer, Frank went on to develop his own unique style and a legacy to match. His musical concept called “Project/Object” created some great work that was respected by fans and critics alike.
Frank would often have ideas and even characters appear in multiple albums and he was very much an advocate of free speech and self education. His free-spirited view on the world was something that he managed to pass down to his children, including rocker Dweezil Zappa. Now Dweezil did have a little help learning the guitar from legends like Steve Vai and Eddie Van Halen, but Dweezil most certainly carries on his father’s far out ways.
For example, his birth name is actually Ian. His ‘Mother’ might be a ‘Space Cadet’ but his Father is definitely a Rock Legend.
Ravi Shankar & Norah Jones
Bet you didn’t see this coming. The man that made the sitar cool for the hippie generation is also the father of the girl whose style is a combination of jazz, country and pop. Guess those are both pretty surprising musical occurrences. Jones’ debut album went diamond and won five Grammy awards. Success comes easy when you have good genes. Don’t Know Why this Father/Daughter Duo isn’t better known.
Julio Inglesias & Enrique Inglesias
Julio is such a celebrated musician that he has even made it to the Guinness Book of World Records with his music — three times. Most recently as the best selling Latin Artist of all-time. He has also managed to break two other records, as well, for success as a European Artist and for recording in the most languages. His son is no stranger to success either. Enrique has sold over 159 million records worldwide and is regarded as the “King of Latin Pop.” After following in his father’s footsteps, I guess you could say that his dad is his Hero.
Bob Marley & Sons
Bob Marley had a lot of children. So it should be no surprise that some of them went on to become musicians like their dear old dad.
Bob Marley is yet another legend of his time, both musically and politically. Everything that the man stood for and fought for would change the way people listen to music and think about freedom forever as he encouraged everyone to Get Up, Stand Up. His spirit lives on in so many, especially in his musical children, Damian, Julian, Stephen and Ziggy.
