5 Times Tom Hanks Was America’s Dad
Tom Hanks is one of the most beloved actors of all-time. He’s also one of the most beloved dads of all-time. Here are five times Tom Hanks truly was America’s Dad.
That Time He Talked About His Son’s Rap Career
Chet Haze is the stage name of white-boy-rapper/hotel trasher/Hanks offspring Chester Hanks. He was briefly relevant back in the late ’00s and early ’10s, when he’d spend his time rapping about college using Weezer songs as his beat.
He’s not particularly good at rapping, but Tom Hanks, America’s Dad, supports him in the most dad way possible. When asked about his son’s rap career, Hanks said the following.
“What I love about my kid is that he’s doing it. There’s a lot of people who sit around for the phone to ring and wait for someone to invite them to do it. And my kid has done it. Sometimes I can’t honestly say I love to hear some of the language in it, but that’s not just his stuff, that’s other people’s as well.”
He supports his son’s rap career, but just wishes he’d tone down the language a little bit. Can you get more dad than that?

The Time He Mumble-Sang “All The Single Ladies”
In 2009, Hanks was asked what his favorite song of the year was. His response was classic dad. First of all, Tom Hanks picking “Single Ladies (Put a Ring on it)” as his favorite song of the year is a peak dad move.
But he took it to the next level by not fully remembering the title of the song, and instead sort of mumble-singing it in a “You know, the song that goes like this” kind of way. Tom Hanks’ dad game is strong.
