5 Essential Dad Hacks
Dad hacks are all around you, and it’s our duty to make your life a little easier by clueing you in on the real handy ones. So without further ado, here are some nifty life hacks employed by dads everywhere.
Use A Can Opener To Open Those Pesky Blister Packets
The word “blister pack” may not immediately ring a bell for you, but you know them when you see them. Those impossible plastic containers with the crimped edges that you need to somehow tear asunder in order to get at what’s inside. Dads, however, have long since found a simple solution to this: the can opener. Seriously, just take a basic can opener, clamp it along the edge, and watch as you can-open your blister pack with ease.
Replace Your Ice Pack With A Frozen Sponge Inside A Ziplock Bag
What is the most annoying part of an ice pack? It’s when it starts melting and dripping out of the bag, right? Well there’s an easy, dad-approved way to avoid that. Just soak a sponge, drop it into a ziplock, and freeze the sucker. It’s just as effective as an ice pack, with none of the drip. And it’s cheap.
Fix A Stuck Zipper With A Pencil
If you’re like me (you are not) when your zipper gets stuck, your first thought is “well, time to burn these pants.” But your dad knows there’s an easy way to fix that situation: just rub the tip of a pencil along the zipper. The graphite will lubricate the zipper and make your need for pants arson disappear.
Use Hand Sanitizer To Erase Ink Stains
Mere mortals tremble at the thought of getting ink stains on their dress shirts, but not dads. They know that a healthy dab of hand sanitizer and some deep scrubbing will knock those stains right off. The first dad to discover this did so while saying “I mean, if it works on hands, it should work on shirts, right?”
See If Pants Fit By Jamming Your Forearm In There
“Back in my day, we didn’t have ‘changing rooms.’ No siree. We just knew that the distance from our closed fist down to our elbow was about our waist size, and stuck our forearm in there to see if it would fit. That way you’re in and out of the store in three minutes, before your mother gets the idea to go on a shopping run.”
Of course there are other dad hacks out there, and we’ll be here to provide them in the future. And if you have any dad hacks of your own, feel free to add them to the comments.
