Nebraska native John Benson recently shouted “You call that curling?!” at the TV while watching the 2018 Winter Olympics, despite having no idea how the sport actually works.
“Oh, c’mon even I could make that shot,” Benson complained, before calling the stone a “puck” and referring to the players sweeping the ice as “defenders.”
Benson has a long history of misunderstanding the rules of the sports he watches. For example, he has absolutely no clue what constitutes a balk in baseball, or how icing works in hockey. Still, his knowledge of Curling is perhaps the best example of him simply wanting to complain about whatever he’s watching.
“He just likes to get upset is all,” said Benson’s wife Janice. “Even I know you can only sweep stones between the tee lines, but there John is, yelling at the players to ‘brush it already.'”
