It was unclear who was more embarrassed when local man Tom Bismarck accidentally regifted a Cuisinart 3-speed power mixer to the original giver, Joe Gibson.
Gibson had reportedly given the mixer to Tom and his wife Janet years earlier, after which it had sat unopened in the bottom left cabinet of the couple’s kitchen.
“It was, like, the junk cabinet, I guess you could say,” Mrs. Bismarck told reporters. “We forgot all the things we put in there. There were a lot of things, y’know?”
The mixer was still in the original box when it was poached from the cabinet and rewrapped in the duplicitous guise of a newly purchased gift.
“I couldn’t even remember when we got it,” Mr. Bismarck later said. “I think it might have been Janie’s 40th. Hell, it could’ve even been from our wedding! You know, mixers don’t really go out of style.”
Witnesses report that Gibson only semi-successfully feigned surprise as he unwrapped the familiar appliance.
“Oh these things are great,” he said to nobody in particular, as he formulated a plan to foist it onto Mark Powell at his anniversary party next month.
