“See how quickly that got cool?” local dad Bob Benson bragged to his neighbor, who had stopped by the house to check out his new AC system. “55,000 BTUs will do that.”
Benson, who reportedly considered systems ranging from 36,000 all the way up to 70,000 BTUs, is extremely proud of his choice.
“Any more BTUs and we’re talking light commercial and not residential,” he said. “That’s just overkill. I mean, I almost got a 70,000, but the wife wasn’t too happy about it and honestly, 55,000 gets the job done just fine. I could keep beer cold in here.”
Despite having a system that could easily cool his 1,500 square foot house down to 60 degrees, Benson will likely never set it lower than 74 degrees in the home.
“It’s just nice to know I could do that if I wanted,” he said, before cranking it back up to 74 and telling his son to close the front door. “What am I trying to do, cool down the whole neighborhood?”
When told BTU stands for British Thermal Unit, Benson shook his head. “No, that doesn’t sound right at all.”
