Halloween has passed, Thanksgiving approaches, and dads across the nation have joined together to officially announce the beginning of “get mad at how early people are putting up Christmas decorations” season.
“It’s a wonderful time of year,” said 53-year-old father-of-four Jeremy Johnson. “Nothing feels quite as good as getting irrationally annoyed at a Christmas decoration display going up in Walmart in the middle of November. And, of course, complaining about it to my wife, kids, and anyone who will listen to me.”
The season revolves around dads complaining about the “Christmas creep” and is steeped in tradition. Apart from getting annoyed at stores and neighbors who put up decorations too soon, it also includes dads sighing audibly when they hear Christmas music before Thanksgiving, and having strong opinions about the holiday cups at Starbucks.
This year is proving to be an especially fruitful season, with dads getting annoyed at Christmas decorations they saw on the first day of November. “In my day, you waited until Thanksgiving to think about Christmas,” Johnson stated. “Seems like people are putting up decorations earlier and earlier. It’s a darn shame.”
