While watching the early afternoon, late afternoon and night NFL games, local dad and self-described “NFL expert” Dave Freeman was able to predict a hold every time a flag was thrown in the middle of the play.
“Oh, flag on the play,” the 43-year-old father who last played football as a senior in high school would say to himself. “That’s definitely going back. Holding.”
Observers were shocked at his impressive knowledge of the game, as his hold predictions were almost always right, even though he would never say who the hold was on, and even though on about a third of the plays the penalty ended up being something else.
“Yup, when you watch as much football as me, you kind of get a sixth sense for these things,” Freeman said, shortly before shouting, “Oh yeah, that’s a hold right there too,” on a play that ended up being a defensive face mask penalty.
